Track 4: Genomic Biomarkers in Cancer:

A biomarker is a measurable indicator of the severity or presence of some disease state. More generally a biomarker is anything that can be used as an indicator of a particular disease state or some other physiological state of an organism. Cell-free, circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) can act as a noninvasive cancer biomarker, offering a potential alternative to invasive tissue biopsies. Today, researchers are investigating the use of ctDNA as a biomarker for detecting the presence of tumors in various cancer types. In the future, ctDNA could potentially serve as a noninvasive approach for real-time monitoring of treatment response and identifying candidates for therapy. Tumor-specific genetic and epigenetic alterations can be detected in the body fluids of patients with cancer. This circulating tumor-specific DNA (ctDNA) provides information about the genomic composition of cancer. Auto Antibodies are interesting as biomarkers because the immune system senses cancer long before the disease manifests itself in other ways. Hypermethylated ccfDNA is a growing area of interest in cancer diagnostics. Detecting tumor cells circulating (CTC) in the peripheral blood of cancer patients could be a promising method for diagnosis and monitoring gastric cancer.

The global biomarkers market was valued at USD 23.9 billion in 2015. The increasing use of biomarkers for drug discovery and development coupled with high R&D expenditure is a major propelling factor for the market growth. This market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.6% from 2015 to 2020

Track 5: Cancer Immunotherapy:

Immunotherapy is treatment that uses certain parts of a person’s immune system to fight diseases such as cancer. This can be done in a couple of ways: Own immune system stimulation, Biological therapy or biotherapy. These advances in cancer immunotherapy are the result of long-term investments in basic research on the immune system—research that continues today. Additional research is currently under way to: understand why immunotherapy is effective in some patients but not in other’s who have the same cancer, expand the use of immunotherapy to more types of cancer, increase the effectiveness of immunotherapy by combining it with other types of cancer treatment, such as targeted therapy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

The global cancer immunotherapy market is expected to reach USD 119.39 Billion by 2021 from USD 61.97 Billion in 2016, at a CAGR of 14.0% from 2016 to 2021.

Track 6:  Cancer Biopsy:

A biopsy is a procedure to remove a piece of tissue or a sample of cells from your body so that it can be analyzed in a laboratory. When an entire lump or suspicious area is removed, the procedure is called an excisional biopsy. When only a sample of tissue is removed with preservation of the histological architecture of the tissue’s cells, the procedure is called an incisional biopsy or core biopsy. Fine needle aspiration is a type of biopsy procedure, most often done on swellings or lumps located just under the skin. Endoscopic biopsy is most often used in gastric cancers to remove the tissues for examination. CT-guided biopsy is a procedure by which the physician uses a very thin needle and a syringe to withdraw a tissue or fluid specimen from an organ or suspected tumor mass. Ultrasound-guided biopsy which involves the removal of cells from a suspicious area within the body using a thin needle and hollow tube called a syringe. Ultrasound is used by the physician to guide the needle to the appropriate area.

The global market for biopsy devices is valued at over $1600 million and is expected to show a CAGR of about 7.1% from the period of 2013-2020. The European holds the second largest market share after North America. It is valued at $480 million and is showing a CAGR of about 7.04% for the next five- seven years and is expected to reach a value of $773 million by 2020. The global breast biopsy market is poised to reach $728.8 Million by 2020 from $436.4 Million in 2015, at a CAGR of 10.8% from 2015 to 2020.

Track 7: Nanotechnology in Cancer:

A growing field called Nanotechnology is allowing researchers to manipulate molecules and structures much smaller than a single cell to enhance our ability to see, monitor and destroy cancer cells in the body. Researchers have created nanosized particles and devices that are as small as a biological molecule such as an enzyme, or about one hundred to ten thousand times smaller than a human cell. Because of their small size, nanotherapeutics can travel far and wide in the body, as well as slip inside cells, delivering treatment or detecting disease in ways unimagined before now. The small size of nano devices, such as mechanical, chemical, or electronic sensors, coupled with sophisticated microscopic plumbing networks, are allowing researchers to analyze a host of molecular and physical traits from individual cells. A complex network of nanosized wires, levers, pores, and pipes can fit on an inch-sized chip. Nanotherapeutics are large enough that they aren’t rapidly eliminated through the kidney, yet small enough that they are more likely to penetrate the leaky blood vessels that feed tumors and thus transfer into tumor tissue. Their ability to reach their targets so selectively and efficiently enables physicians to use smaller doses that are less toxic. And because they can enter cells, nanoparticles are useful carriers for drugs that operate within the cell, such as those that block the faulty genetic messages that fuel cancer growth.

The global market for nanoparticles in the life sciences is estimated at over $29.6 billion for 2014. This market is forecast to grow to more than $79.8 billion by 2019, to register a healthy compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22%. The global nanotechnology industry will grow to reach US$ 80.8 Billion by 2020.

Track 9: Cancer Clinical Trails:

Clinical trials are research studies that involve people. Understanding what they are can help you decide if a clinical trial might be an option for you. Or maybe you have a friend or family member with cancer and are wondering if a clinical trial is right for them. Depending on product type and development stage, investigators initially enroll volunteers and/or patients into small pilot studies, and subsequently conduct progressively larger scale comparative studies. Clinical trials can vary in size and cost, and they can involve a single research center or multiple centers, in one country or in multiple countries. Clinical study design aims to ensure the scientific validity and reproducibility of the results. Cancer Diagnostics 2017 is a very prestigious gathering across global Cancer Conferences.

Great strides have been made in effective cancer treatment due in part to new drug therapies researched through clinical trials. The global clinical trials conducted in 2008 were reported to be 10,326 and were highest from 2007 to 2010. Oncology trials were the most widely conducted clinical trials accounting for 28.47% of all the trials conducted for the year 2008. Asia reported to a steady growth as compared to the other regions; which showed decline in the total number of clinical trials in the year 2010.
